![]() I checked out the sites you mentioned and found some interesting stuff. 222 Rem.įor the cost of one those more pricey barrels, you can get a complete rifle, a Savage, which will probably shoot more accurately than the TC anyway. Was never so happy as when I palmed that POS off on some unsuspecting sucker and bought a Rem. Couldn't let the barrel get warm to the touch, not hot, just warm, at all or it would shoot patterns. Fire 4 or more in less than 5 minutes and the groups would get bigger and bigger, more like patterns. If I would fire 3 shots during the summer heat it would group around 1 - 1 1/4" at 100 yards. ![]() Had to send the first barrel on the carbine back the groups were so bad. On the carbine, I had to glass bed the forend, then free float the barrel on either side of a 2" band around the forend screw. The action was easy to work on to smooth up, but the cartridge shot like crap unless you did a lot of tinkering. I had two TC Contenders, a pistol with the octagon barrel and a carbine, both in. Like I always say the next chambering for the Contender is only a barrel away. The reason I say that is adding barrels (and even more frames) is very addicting. The last tidbit of info I have is Contenders are not inexpensive. Both are super crisp with the pull weight on one being 2 pounds and the other 3 pounds. ![]() However by some carefull stoning of the engagement surfaces and tweaking the springs my Gunsmith was able to get a really great trigger on both of my new G2 Contender Frames. On the down side the Trigger on the new G2 Contender is not adjustable for engagement like it was on the original Contender. In Handgun form I think the new Rubber Grip and Forend that comes with the new Stainless-Steel G2 Contender are absolutely the best I have used. Most notablly is the fact that if you the hammer and do not take the shot, but rather pull the trigger and lower the hammer you do not need to break open the action on the G2 Contender to reset the sear like had to be done on the original Contender. There are several improvements to the G2 Contender. Prior to this I had only used the Original Contender made after 1982. I just recently aquired two new Stainless-Steel G2 Contender Handgun Frames. In the Small Calibers you have mentioned the only option (other than a couple in. In Rifle form (ie longer than 16") the custom makers are getting closer to $500.00 for a Stainless-Steel Contender Rifle Barrel than they are to $300.00 (Barrels 14" or less are less expensive). I have had both Factory T/C Barrels and Custom Barrels from SSK Industries, Bullberry Barrel Works, Virgin Valley Custom Guns (now Match Grade Machine) and On Target Technologies. I have found that they can be super accurate. I have been Hunting with and Shooting T/C Contender Handguns since 1982. Original Contender Barrels will fit on the new G2 Rrames and vise versa, although on some of the very early barrels the new style locking lugs will need to be put in the older barrels. The T/C G2 Contender (in either Rifle or Handgun form) are now available in either Blued / Walnut or Stainless / Synthetic. I also think she would'nt notice a few extra scoped barrels laying around as easily as a few new rifles or shotguns. I can feel my wallet getting lighter real soon. 224) barrels for the contender? And can the old style Contender barrels fit the New G2 Contender frame? What companies do you guys know of that have quality small caliber (less than. If I went with the TC then I could sell the barrel for whatever to another nutcase (like Myself) who's been thinking about that caliber. Or if I just got a barrel for a TC we are looking at what? $300 or so? Once I try it out and say I dont want it, I cant sell the rifle for what I have into it, and I'd have to find a buyer. By the time I by a new rifle and rebarrel I'm looking at $1200 if I did it with a CZ. I work 50+ hours a week, she stays at home and takes care of the household finances and stuff. In the last 6 months I have bought our first home, and 2 new SUV's. I've tried the Investment work with my wife. Totch94 I think that Green finish on stainless will look pretty hot. I think the G2 Contender is what I'm looking for anyways. Which I just found out was an Encore not a Contender.
